We believe in equal rights and equal dignity
The Unitarian Universalist Association of congregations to which we belong has long been a pioneer in standing up for the rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) people and enfolding them within our communities. The First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis earned its designation as an official “Welcoming Congregation” in 1993 and has proudly waved the banner since.
You may find more information on the denominational program and activities at this website.
Marriage Rights for All
The Society is deeply committed to marriage rights. Many in our community were active in defeating the proposed anti-marriage amendment to the Minnesota state constitution in 2012. Our children learn at a young age that love is for everyone. Our clergy offer the same rites of passage ceremonies, counseling, and other pastoral services to everyone irrespective of their affectional or gender orientation.
