Fall is Fantastic…no matter who you ask!

When people are asked about their favorite season, surprisingly many people say Fall.  This is true even in Minnesota where the season following Fall promises cold weather and very short days.

Why is this? Because Fall is my favorite season, I started answering that question by asking myself.

  • I am not a fan of hot weather, especially hot mixed with humidity and Fall provides a welcome relief from that.
  • I like the way the Fall air looks.  Crisp — like I’m wearing a new pair of glasses with the proper prescription. And the sky looks so blue.
  • Getting the garden ready for its dormancy. I feel a sense of accomplishment and caring for the plants I nourished during the previous five months.
  • Raking leaves. Again, a feeling of accomplishment that is immediately apparent. There are a bunch of leaves on the ground, then there are very few leaves. Plus, it’s pretty good exercise.
  • Fall leaf colors. No need to elaborate – everybody loves this.
  • A feeling that I, like the plants, am going into a rest period myself.

Then I did an internet search and this is what Google AI came up with after scouring more sites than I possibly could:

  • The vibrant colors of changing leaves create stunning landscapes.
  • Cooler temperatures provide a refreshing break from summer heat.
  • Fall activities like apple picking and pumpkin carving are enjoyable traditions.
  • Seasonal flavors, such as pumpkin spice, enhance culinary experiences.
  • Cozy clothing and warm drinks promote a sense of comfort and relaxation.
  • Holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving foster community and family gatherings.

And finally, from the verywellmind.com site “Why We Love Fall So Much, According to Psychology” 10/25/2023:

  • Fall is a temporal landmark, a moment that influences how we see and use time and tends to boost people’s motivation.
  • Many people see fall as a time for a fresh start, perhaps due to long-held associations with going back to school in September.
  • Psychology experts say we can maximize the mental health benefits of the season by spending time in nature, setting goals, and prioritizing favorite activities.

Whether Fall is your favorite season or not, the Seasonal Celebrations Team has a wonderful Fall Equinox celebration planned for Sunday, September 21 during our regular Assembly followed by a full lunch (as compared to the already substantial mini-meal) immediately following. Suggested donation is $10 but pay what you can, even if that is nothing, because we really want to celebrate with you!
