Today the FUS Foundation board announces that the Pearson Social Concerns Fund has begun accepting grant applications. The fund provides grants annually to support non-profit organizations working for social justice.
This year, 35 after Kurt Pearson’s passing at the height of the AIDS Crisis, we are struck by the power of this community to transform the grief of parents and friends, and approximately $600 in 1991, into funding for over 110 social justice organizations and projects. Over that time additional donations and careful stewardship have grown his legacy to $192,000. That’s quite a memorial to Kurt and a testament to the FUS community’s generosity and commitment to build a more just and peaceful world.
To continue this tradition of generosity, today we are asking community members to think about the non-profits that you may volunteer with, or donate to yourself. Please pass along to your networks that the Foundation is looking to award 4-5 organizations a total of $9,000 this year. Organizations can submit applications directly through the FUS website. The application window will be open through the end of September.
In October, near Kurt’s birthday, the Foundation will announce the recipients of this year’s grants. And we look forward to sharing with you how this remarkable FUS community is continuing to build a more compassionate and equitable world.
