Retreat to the Woods

SAVE THESE DATES: CHECK OUT THE ANNUAL FUS RETREAT TO THE WOODS (RTW) — FRIDAY, OCT. 2 (5 pm) to SUNDAY, OCT. 4 (1 pm)

The RTW is an opportunity for members to explore and reflect on nature, attend naturalist-led hikes and sessions, engage in crafts, perform and/or enjoy the variety show, and build community with family and other FUS members and friends.

Grandparents and grandkids welcome! This fall retreat is at the Baker Outdoor Learning Center, part of the lovely Baker Park Reserve, 30 minutes west of FUS. The Center has 8 bunk cabins and a lovely lodge where we cook 5 meals and hold crafts and a variety show. A Reserve naturalist is available on site 24 hours. Camping is an option. Day registration for Saturday is also an option.

YOUTH (18 and under) attend free, thanks to the generous support of the FUS membership and Board. FUS families and friends are encouraged to attend. Adult scholarships are available.

The schedule of this year’s sessions is being finalized — check the website next week.

Last year’s highlights included spectacular weather, a morning yoga session outdoors, the “Odyssey” session (no, not Ulysses’s — a FUS member’s), a talent show, crafts, a naturalist-led nighttime nature hike, prehistoric skills, archery, pond study, canoeing, and map reading and a scavenger hunt. There is a beautiful paved hiking/biking trail around Lake Katrina.

Please contact Cindy Nast at with any questions. For more information about the retreat and registration, go to the RTW website and watch for further announcements.
