The Social Justice Highlight for May is our Align Team.
Align MPLS, an interfaith collaboration of 18 Minneapolis religious congregations and individuals with lived experiences dedicated to addressing homelessness through education, advocacy, and direct action. As allies of Align Minnesota, most of you already give regularly on the Second Sunday of the month by chipping in extra dollars to a simpler “encore” mini-meal served here on the Sundays when we also serve a glorious Oasis dinner at Plymouth Church at the intersection of Nicollet and Franklin.
Through the FUS Foundation, you’ve helped purchase a new oven to cook the meals, and shelving and handcarts to store and rescue food.
Recently we’ve added volunteer opportunities to rescue Santa Clause sized bags of bread from Breadsmith Bakery and heavy cases of apples, onions, potatoes and carrots with the support of Groveland Food Bank who is in turn supported by our wonderful Wilson Fund.
Come join the generous, hearty souls around here who transport chicken, fill shampoo bottles, pack ramen noodles, make sandwiches, play music, wrap bread on a Saturday nights, and carry homemade cakes made from rescued apples and strawberries on a Sunday after Assembly. Contact Dave Leussler, Dara Strickland, Shelley Schreffler, Christie Eller, Cindy Anderson, Karen Rowehl or Lizz Hutchinson for help getting involved. Do something that “makes you come alive!”
