On Monday, FUS Ukraine Sponsorship Project team members welcomed the latest refugee family to come to Minneapolis at the MSP airport with our support. This delightful family consists of Andrii (13) and Oleksandr (6) and their mother Iryna. Iryna’s husband and the father of the boys remains in Ukraine, serving in the army, defending his country. While the family was in route to the US we received a moving message from him expressed his deep appreciation of the work we are doing to support his family as they get settled here. Sponsorship team members worked the US Citizenship and Immigration Services under the Uniting for Ukraine program as well as refugee support organizations to make this happen. The work continues as we make the family comfortable in their temporary housing with FUS member Mikki Morrissette, organizing summer activities for the boys, arrange ESL classes for Iryna, and introduce the family to a social service agency that connect them with available government benefits qne employment opportunities for Iryna, and much more.
