- Pearson Grants! January 4, 2022
The Foundation of FUS is happy to announce the Kurt Pearson Social Concerns grant recipients for 2021 Established in 1992, in loving memory of Kurt, by his parents, Mibs and Perry Pearson, the Kurt Pearson Social Concerns Fund was created to support organizations that address social concerns that Kurt would have found important. Its annual grants are given to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. With this year’s awards of $5,800, the Pearson Fund has made grants of over $58,000! This year’s awardees/grantees are: Kids At Risk Action Financial Literacy Mentoring Program: KARA offers programs that make life better for abused and neglected children and young adults. The financial literacy mentoring program teaches saving and investment strategies to young people. The grant award is $1,250. Wholesome Minnesota/Compassionate Action for Animals: The grant will assist the organization in providing school cafeterias with free plant-based menu resources to improve health outcomes and reduce impact of climate change. The grant award is $1,000. The Dignity Center: The grant will allow the Dignity Center to provide new beds to families moving out of homelessness. The Dignity Center welcomes and supports people living in poverty on their path to stability. The grant award is $2,100. Just the Pill/ Abortion: The grant will assist the organization in providing expanded access to medically induced abortion and other reproductive services to underserved communities by providing a full range of services including contraception and birthing support. The grant is $1,200. MUUSJA (Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance): The grant will allow MUUSJA to organize and support the UU booths and parade presence at 2022 Pride fests across Minnesota. The grant is $1,000. WE Health Clinic: Provides, advances, and advocates for evidence-based, culturally competent reproductive and sexual health care for all in NE Minnesota. The grant will allow WE to better serve the LBGTQ+ community and Native women from 3 reservations. The grant is $2,000. Virtual high fives and applause for those advancing the cause of these groups! We look forward to hearing more from these organizations in the coming weeks as they prepare short videos to describe their work and how they will utilize this funding.
