What holds a community together when its members don’t all believe the same things? In Unitarian Universalism, shared convictions are often less about doctrine than about the spaces, stories, rituals, and relationships that shape us over time. Drawing from oral histories of longtime members of the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, this sermon explores how architecture, cherished objects, communal memory, and the simple act of gathering become sacred containers for lives that are wonderfully diverse. Together, we’ll consider how belonging is built — not through uniform belief, but through the material worlds and shared histories that quietly teach us what it means to become a community.
