Kaiser Foundation reported in October that up to five billion pills are thrown away by hospitals and nursing homes, ending up in landfills, when three out of 10 people report they have not taken their medications, lacking money to pay for them (see 2/23/23 Star Tribune Editorial).
HF 1032 and SF 868 provide for additional funding for Roundtable Rx, a “medical matchmaker,” which brings otherwise discarded drugs to people who are unable to buy them. Created by the University of Minnesota Pharmacy Students in 2019 and now staffed by one, the funding would provide for an addition of two to its staff as well as better office space.
Message: I urge you to support HF 1032 and SF 868 providing additional investment in the Roundtable Rx program which makes unused medications available to people unable to pay for them.
