Summer Solstice Celebration – Friday, June 21, 2024

In Minneapolis we experience a full 7 hours and 31 minutes more of daylight at Summer Solstice than we do at Winter Solstice. And while we no longer need natural daylight to enjoy nighttime activities, isn’t it nice to be outside at night savoring the natural light (and, of course, being warm). How do you enjoy these extra hours of daylight? Take a walk after dinner? Enjoy an evening softball game at a local ball field? Stand out in the yard talking to a neighbor? Take in a concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell? Follow your interests – there are so many ways to just appreciate these extra hours outside. A personal and favorite memory of mine from childhood: play Kick the Can in the street. I hope you’re fortunate to get to hear the sounds of kids having fun in your neighborhood.

And isn’t it nice to drive to work in the morning without turning on your headlights? Or waiting for the bus in daylight?

Here’s another way you can enjoy the extra daylight – join us at the Summer Solstice Celebration on Friday, June 21 at 6:30 pm.  We’ll have a tasty dinner, music by the Eclectics, Midsummer Revels Program, activities for the kids and drumming! The Midsummer Revels Program will feature an original play, Batty for Bats, that will be fun for kids and adults!
